Tips For Maintaining Good Oral Hygiene

Posted on 7/24/2023 by Beautiful Smiles Office
Tips For Maintaining Good Oral HygieneMaintaining good oral hygiene will impact your overall health body positively. The mouth is the access point to the gastrointestinal canal and therefore the entrance point of most bacteria can cause disease. Being mindful of your daily habits such as drinking a lot of water and limiting the majority of all sugary and acidic foods is crucial to oral health.

How frequent should you brush your teeth?

At least, twice a day, in the morning and at night. Although, brushing at night is most effective, as it helps in getting rid of all bacteria and germs that have been amassed throughout the day. Failing to brush your teeth properly equates to not brushing at all. Brushing requires that you take your time, moving the toothbrush in tender rounded patterns so as to get rid of all the plaques hiding in between the teeth. If all the plaque is not removed, it can harden the gums leading to a buildup of calculus. Be sure to gently brush your tongue as well to prevent the plaque from accrual. Ideally, while shopping for a toothbrush, get one with soft bristles that are gentle on your gums.

Flossing is equally important

Flossing helps to get rid of food and other products that are stuck in between the teeth. Flossing has many advantages such as helping to lower inflammation in the gums due to hoarded plaque. It also helps to stimulate the gums for optimal functioning. At least make a point of flossing daily. That should be enough to reap maximum benefits.

Schedule dentist appointments

Regular teeth checkup is very important. At the very minimum, you should see our dentist twice a year. Our dentists are able to spot any irregularities and issues that need to be addressed. They help to remove calculus and address any cavities. If you notice sudden changes in taste or smell or other notable issues such as pain, be sure to consult with our dentists at your earliest convenience.
