Oral Health After Vaping

Posted on 2/2/2024 by Weo Admin
Smiling woman grinding her teeth. Some of us are constantly seeking ways to escape into the highs of life. Some people smoke cigarettes, while others have chosen to use water pipes or e-cigarettes, a practice commonly known as vaping. You may think that vaping is less harmful than smoking regular cigarettes. However, there is still a great impact on your oral health.

What Happens When You Smoke E-Cigarettes?

When vaping, you are inhaling vaping juice, which is sometimes labeled as nicotine-free, but the accuracy of this labeling is uncertain. There is evidence that vaping juice contains harmful substances such as nicotine, heavy metals, cancer-causing chemicals, and volatile organic compounds. Vaping has been linked to gum disease and other oral health issues due to the inflammation it causes.

Oral Health After Vaping

You might want to enjoy what you believe are the benefits of vaping. However, it would also be beneficial to consider quitting this habit for the sake of your oral health. Here is what you should do to improve your oral health after you finally quit vaping.

Develop a Good Oral Care Regimen

The best way to improve your oral health is to have a good oral care regimen. This regimen should include brushing for a full two minutes at least twice a day. When brushing, also use a toothpaste containing fluoride. Use an electric toothbrush that comes with a timer to ensure you reach the full amount of time.

Take Fluoride Treatments

Use fluoride treatments and other methods to protect your teeth from cavities. If you already have cavities, your dentist will recommend getting them filled immediately to prevent the need for more serious interventions.

Make Regular Visits to Our Dentist

After quitting vaping, your mouth will take time to become perfectly healthy. To expedite the process, make frequent visits to our dentist for regular cleaning and oral exams. The dentist will recommend other dental procedures depending on the impact vaping has on your oral health. For example, if you have signs of gum disease, you may need periodontal cleaning to remove bacteria from under and around the gums.
