The only way to know what is going on in your mouth is to go in and see your dentist. He or she can take a look and let you know just how serious the problem really is.
What Your Dentist is Likely to Do
The first thing your dentist is probably going to do is take a peek inside your mouth. They want to first rule out anything obvious that may be there, like the item stuck that was causing inflammation. If they do not see anything definitive that could be causing the pain, they will likely then perform an x-ray.
With an x-ray, they can see what is going on inside your tooth. This can show them if you have a cavity, crack, complete fracture, or even an abscess growing near the root of your tooth. Whatever they find while looking at your x-rays will determine the type of treatment you need.
Biting down is never supposed to hurt, unless you recently underwent some type of a dental procedure that could have caused the issue in the first place. If this is not the case for you, then give your dentist a call. Let their office know what is going on and the symptoms that you are currently experiencing.
From there, they can determine how quickly they need to see you and schedule your appointment. Make sure you tell them everything that is going on, as that will give them a much clearer picture of what the problem might be.
