The Danger of Capping Your Toothbrush after Using It

Posted on 3/27/2018 by Beautiful Smiles Office
Toothbrush Beautiful Smiles CA 95695-2986Do you know that sometimes what we use for maintaining hygiene are also the things packed with germs? Take your toothbrush, for example. It is important to dental hygiene, since you use it to effectively clean your teeth by removing plaque buildup.

However, if you do not observe the proper way of cleaning your toothbrush, the device can become dangerous instead of keeping your teeth clean and healthy.

Why a Toothbrush are Full of Bacteria

Your toothbrush is home to millions of bacteria that includes E. Coli, Streptococcus Mutans, Lactobacillus, and Staphylococcus Aureus. But do not worry, some of these bacteria are not harmful to the body, in fact, some of them live inside and outside the human body.

Naturally, when you put your toothbrush in your mouth to clean it, the bacteria living in your mouth will be transferred to it. But another way that your toothbrush can acquire germs and bacteria is just by its location.

Because toothbrushes are placed near toilets, some of them were tested to contain fecal matter. This may be possible due to two things.

First, people using the toilet are able to touch them in some way, and second, when the toilet is flushed, it has been proven the fecal particles are released in the air. Since toothbrushes are stored near toilets, they become exposed to these fecal particles in the air.

Why Using a Cap is Not Good for Your Oral Health

With the idea in mind about floating fecal particles, you are thinking now that in order to keep your toothbrush clean you will just place a cap over it. Well, this is actually wrong.

Putting a cap cover on your wet toothbrush promotes the growth of bacteria. Keeping a wet toothbrush covered will keep it wet for a long time, which makes it a perfect place for dangerous microorganisms to reproduce.

It is more hygienic to let your toothbrush air dry, in a located away from the toilet. This is the best way to keep your toothbrushes clean.
