Why Do I Need Composite Resin?

If amalgam is so reliable and has been around so long, then why is composite resin so highly recommended?

Sure, amalgam is strong and sturdy and great for biting surfaces, but composite resin is no slouch. Take a look at these facts about composite:

•	Composite resin is made up of a mixture of silica-like glass or quartz blended into a resinous material that can be stained to perfectly match your existing teeth.
•	Composite resin requires less drilling than amalgam, making the overall experience less stressful for our patients.
•	Composite resin is much more attractive, allowing us to perform extensive repairs on more visible, front teeth.
•	Composite resin bonds easily to your teeth and is often built up in layers, using a special light to harden each layer. That allows us to preserve more of your tooth versus amalgam.
•	Composite resin isn't as sensitive to temperature changes like amalgam, which helps keep your tooth from breaking or becoming damaged.
•	While composite resin is oftentimes more expensive than amalgam, in many ways it outperforms amalgam, making it a highly reliable and recommended material for your dental work.
