Which Snacks Look Healthy but Actually Are Bad for Your Mouth?
Many people eat snacks almost on a daily basis. As much as this is a deep-rooted habit, you need to know the impact some of these snacks have on your teeth. There are snacks that look very healthy and nutritious but have a negative impact on your oral health. Here are some of them:

Citrus Fruits

When you expose your teeth to acidic foods, they will erode the enamel and make your teeth more vulnerable to bacterial attacks. Therefore, as much as a squeeze of lime or lemon can improve the taste of a drink, it is not always a favorable option for your mouth. Acidic juices from citric fruits can corrode and irritate your mouth sores. In case you eat these fruits, make sure you drink plenty of water to help neutralize the acidic conditions.

Dried Fruits

Most people rank dried fruits among the healthiest snacks, but that might not be the case. These fruits are mainly sticky and can damage your teeth because they stay on them for a longer period. Bacteria can feed on sticky food particles, causing you to develop oral conditions like tooth decay. Therefore, if you happen to eat dried fruits, always clean your mouth after. You can do so by brushing, flossing, or using mouthwash.

Potato Chips

The crunchy sound of potato chips might make them look very healthy, but they are a risky pick for your mouth. These snacks are loaded with starch, which turns into sugar that could feed bacteria in your teeth. The effects could be worse if you don't regularly clean your mouth. If you eat potato chips, always rinse your mouth to get rid of any sticky particles. It is also recommended that you don't eat large quantities of potato chips because it increases the chance of them sticking in your mouth. If you want to know which snacks are harmful to your teeth, feel free to contact our offices for an expert opinion.
