Here Are A Few Things To Note About Flossing

Posted on 9/5/2022 by Beautiful Smiles Office
Here Are A Few Things To Note About FlossingThe Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and dental professionals agree that flossing is the single most significant weapon for fighting plaque buildup. Each food contains five surfaces, so if you don't floss all of them, you could be letting plaque to buildup. Even if you floss regularly, it is likely that you leave at least two surfaces unclean. As such, tooth cavities and periodontal disease can attack your mouth. Here we provide you with some tips and interesting facts that you should know about them.

The Right Floss makes Flossing more Effective

You need to choose dental floss that works best for your flossing activity. Floss made of Nylon has strands that may tear or shred if your teeth are tightly spaced. You should use this floss if there are some gaps in your teeth to avoid shredding or tearing. Teflon floss is a monofilament floss, unlike multifilament nylon floss. Teflon floss tends to slide more easily in the spaces between teeth. It is also shred-resistant. People who have braces or bridges can use floss threaders that look like plastic sewing needles.

Keep the Right Floss Motion

When flossing, you should guide the floss in between the teeth with a gentle sawing motion. Avoid forcing the floss into the interdental space. Don't even snap it down hard. After you have guided the floss down and it has reached the gum line, you need to curve it so that it assumes a C-shape. This way, it works against the tooth. Use a back-and-forth motion to apply the floss. Try to gently scrape the surfaces and sides of the tooth. Now, lift the debris up while still using the up and down motions.
