The Downside to Traditional Braces

The brackets are bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth at the beginning of treatment, and the wires span across the teeth secured to each bracket with an elastic O-ring. The wires are responsible for the movement of the teeth, putting pressure on them to gradually guide them into alignment and stabilize them once they reach their proper positions.
Metal braces may be effective, but they do have a few significant drawbacks. One of the biggest drawbacks to metal braces is their visibility. Metal braces stand out in your smile, taking it over. For adults, having a shiny metal smile can cause more embarrassment than simply living with crooked teeth. Another drawback to metal braces is that the brackets can rub your gums, causing sores. How Invisalign Works
Invisalign uses a series of aligners to help you achieve an improved smile. Every set of aligners is designed to be worn for two weeks at a time before moving on to the next set. Each set is slightly different from the one before it, which enables the aligners to gently move your teeth to where they need to be. On average, patients go through 20 to 30 sets of aligners throughout the course of their treatment.
The plastic of the aligners puts pressure on your teeth, which then puts pressure on the periodontal ligaments. The ligaments widen, loosening your teeth so that they can be guided into proper alignment. Once your teeth have reached their proper locations, and your treatment is over, you are then provided with a retainer to help maintain your beautiful results.
