How Biting Down on a Cracked Tooth Can Expose Your Body to Dangers

Posted on 9/6/2021 by Beautiful Smiles Office
How Biting Down on a Cracked Tooth Can Expose Your Body to DangersIf you have a dental issue, you may notice that biting and chewing may cause you discomfort. Often people notice they have dental issues when they bite on hard or crunchy foods. If you are chewing and notice sensitivity or discomfort, reach for your phone. Do not look up what the problem may be; instead, give our office a call right away so we can determine what is causing you pain.

What to do While You Wait For Your Dental Appointment

While you wait for your appointment, there are a couple of things you should do. Try to see if you can identify which tooth is sensitive. It may be that you can see in the mirror if you have a cracked tooth. Sometimes, the crack is hidden from view. If this is the case, you will not be able to find it by just looking for yourself.

We also suggest you use toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. This may help ease your discomfort, as it is imperative that you still brush your cracked tooth before we see you in our office.

Lastly, choose soft foods for your meals. Biting down on a cracked tooth can expose your body to dangers. If you bite down on something hard and cause your tooth to crack, even more, you will have a bigger problem. If bacteria enter the dental crack in the tooth, it could cause an infection that could take the tooth's life. You may need a root canal, or worse, you may lose the tooth. Prepare healthy protein shakes that are low in sugar. Eat applesauce, hummus, and other dips, as well as wholesome soups.
